How to manage a remote engineering team in Pakistan

The operating system for a productive offshore team — standups, ownership, reviews, and retention.

Start with ownership, not tasks

The biggest mistake is treating an offshore team as a ticket queue. Give engineers ownership of features and outcomes, and they behave like the senior people they are. Micro-managed teams underperform everywhere.

A simple weekly cadence

  • Daily standup inside the timezone overlap window.
  • Weekly demo — something shippable, every Friday.
  • Async written updates and PR-based reviews the rest of the time.

Communication rules that work

  • Default to writing — decisions in docs, not DMs.
  • Over-communicate context; under-communicate interruptions.
  • Record walkthroughs instead of scheduling more calls.

Retention is a management problem

Good engineers leave bad management, not offshore jobs. Fair pay in USD, real ownership, growth, and a present manager keep people. This is the part a managed partner does full-time so you don't have to.

When to bring in help

If managing the team is pulling you off product, that's the signal to hand day-to-day management to a partner on the ground — while you keep the roadmap and the final say.
